It's a story of a famous French author whose name was Balzac, the author of "The Human Comedy" and many other clever novels.
This story is about him being a handwriting expert.
Balzac was a man of a great talent and often told his friends that he could tell anyone's character exactly by their handwriting. Once a woman friend of his brought him a boy's exercise book and asked him to tell her something about the boy's character. She also said that the boy was her son. Balzac studied the book real carefully. He was sorry to tell her that the boy was a bad lazy fellow. The woman smiled and said that it was Balzac's own exercise book from when he was a little boy.
In conclusion, I'd like to say that I think the woman's actions were so clever and funny. We can't be sure whether Balzac could or couldn't tell one's character according to their handwriting, but this lesson definitely made him less of a show-off.
